NSN / PART NUMBER LOOKUP

Quote a National Stock Number or Part Number

Send the stock number, the manufacturer part number, or the federal stock class you are working from. The desk prices it against live distributor stock and returns a firm quote, usually within 24 to 72 hours, whether or not the item is carried in the national stock system.

WHAT THE DESK NEEDS TO PRICE IT

Four Details Turn a Stock Number Into a Quote

A complete request is quoted the same business day it is logged. Anything missing comes back as a question instead of a price, which is the only delay worth avoiding.

01 / THE NUMBER

The NSN or the part number

A national stock number, a manufacturer part number, or the federal stock class you are working from. Any one of them gets the requirement priced; the NSN alone is enough to start.

02 / THE QUANTITY

How many you need

Quantity as written on the requisition. It is what the sourcing cost is struck at, so the same part at two counts is two prices rather than one estimate.

03 / THE DESTINATION

Where it ships

The receiving activity, installation, or freight-forwarder address, with the delivery date the requirement carries. This is what the freight and the transit time are read against.

04 / THE AUTHORITY

The solicitation, if there is one

The solicitation or contract number the buy is tracked under, so the quote comes back under the number your file already uses rather than under a new reference.

READING A STOCK NUMBER

What the Thirteen Digits of an NSN Tell the Desk

A national stock number is thirteen digits written in four blocks, as in 5310-01-234-5678 (an example, shown for its format only). Split it and it stops being a serial number: the front tells the desk what kind of item it is, and the back tells it which item exactly. That is enough to price a requirement before anyone opens a catalogue.

5310
FEDERAL SUPPLY CLASS

Four digits naming the class of item. The first two are the supply group, so 5310 is nuts and washers, filed under FSG 53, hardware and abrasives.

01
NATIONAL CODIFICATION BUREAU

Two digits naming the country that catalogued the item. 00 and 01 are the United States; other codes mark a NATO member's own entry.

2345678
ITEM NUMBER

Seven digits that identify the item itself inside that class. Together with the bureau code they form the nine-digit NIIN.

A part number and a stock number are not the same thing

A manufacturer part number identifies one maker's item: it says what the factory calls the thing. A national stock number identifies the item as the Department of Defense has catalogued it, whichever factory is behind it, which is why one NSN can be answered by several approved sources. A CAGE code names the specific source, so when a requirement is pinned to one manufacturer, the CAGE code is what pins it. Send any of the three and the desk prices it; send the NSN with the CAGE code and the quote comes back without a substitution question.

Where an item is not carried in the national stock system at all, or the stock number is backordered, the requirement is still quotable: the desk cross-references the stock number to a source of supply, confirms the specification match, and quotes against the part number that source actually sells. That is the ordinary route for open-market industrial supply, and it is why a requisition does not have to stall on a stock number nobody can fill.

NSN / COMMON QUESTIONS

Stock Numbers, Substitutions and Turnaround

What the desk does with a number once it arrives, and what it will never do without asking you first.

Yes. An NSN identifies the item positively, so it is enough to start from. The desk resolves it to a source of supply, prices it at the quantity you need, and returns a firm quote. Where the number resolves to several approved sources, the quote states which one the price is struck against.

Supplier Integrity & Procurement Compliance Statement

Atlas Horizon Group is an independent value-added reseller of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) industrial supply, operating under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) as they apply to open-market COTS procurement. Our sourcing policy is to buy through authorized distribution channels and manufacturers, and not from open broker listings. Where a requirement carries a country-of-origin, domestic-content or trade-agreement condition, we confirm in writing how it is met before award, and we say so plainly where no compliant option is available rather than quoting a part we cannot stand behind. Orders ship direct to the receiving point the purchase order names, including blind shipment where the order calls for it. Documentation accompanies each order as its terms require.
